Industrial Epoxy Flooring Installation for Commercial Facilities

Industrial epoxy flooring is the proven standard for commercial and industrial facilities that demand a durable, seamless, chemical-resistant floor surface. Duraguard Protective Coating Solutions has been installing industrial epoxy floors throughout Wisconsin and Illinois since 1993 — more than 30 years as trusted industrial epoxy installers serving manufacturing plants, food processing facilities, warehouses, pharmaceutical labs, automotive service centers, and commercial operations across southeastern Wisconsin and northern Illinois. From heavy-duty industrial epoxy floors built for forklift traffic and chemical exposure, to decorative epoxy systems for showrooms and commercial spaces, Duraguard engineers and installs the right epoxy floor system for your facility’s specific demands.

What Is Industrial Epoxy Flooring?

Industrial epoxy flooring is a high-performance coating system applied to concrete substrates to create a seamless, non-porous, chemical-resistant surface capable of withstanding the mechanical and chemical demands of industrial and commercial operations. Unlike residential epoxy products sold at hardware stores, industrial epoxy floor systems are 100% solids formulations — meaning they contain no water or solvents and cure to a full-thickness, dense surface that delivers genuine industrial performance.

A properly installed industrial epoxy floor bonds mechanically to the prepared concrete substrate, creating a monolithic surface with no joints, seams, or grout lines where bacteria, moisture, or contaminants can harbor. The result is a floor that is easier to clean, more resistant to chemical attack, more durable under heavy traffic, and significantly longer-lasting than bare or sealed concrete.

Types of Industrial Epoxy Floors

Duraguard installs a full range of industrial epoxy floor systems matched to the specific demands of each application:

Standard Industrial Epoxy
Our base industrial epoxy system provides a 10 to 20 mil thick, seamless, chemical-resistant surface for general manufacturing, warehousing, and commercial applications. Available in a broad range of colors with optional slip-resistant aggregate for areas requiring enhanced traction. This system handles moderate chemical exposure, forklift traffic, and the day-to-day demands of busy industrial operations.

High-Build Industrial Epoxy
For environments requiring greater thickness and impact resistance, Duraguard installs high-build epoxy systems at 30 to 60 mils — providing additional protection against point-load impact, abrasion, and chemical penetration. Ideal for heavy manufacturing, metalworking, and facilities with aggressive chemical profiles.

Epoxy Mortar Systems
For severely damaged concrete, high-impact environments, or areas requiring a resurfacing solution, Duraguard installs epoxy mortar systems — a combination of 100% solids epoxy and graded aggregate that rebuilds damaged surfaces and provides a thick, impact-resistant wearing layer. This system is particularly effective in facilities with deteriorated concrete that does not require full slab replacement.

Novolac Epoxy — Chemical Resistant Systems
For facilities handling aggressive chemicals — acids, alkalis, solvents, and harsh industrial cleaning agents — Duraguard’s Durapoxy HP Novolac epoxy system provides the highest level of chemical resistance available in an epoxy formulation. This system is specified for chemical processing, pharmaceutical production, food processing, and industrial environments where standard epoxy would degrade under continuous chemical exposure.

ESD and Static Dissipative Epoxy
Data centers, electronics manufacturing facilities, and pharmaceutical clean rooms require flooring that safely dissipates electrostatic discharge. Duraguard’s ESD epoxy floor systems are engineered and tested to meet ANSI/ESD standards, providing a conductive or dissipative surface that protects sensitive equipment and processes from static discharge damage.

Decorative Epoxy Floors
Industrial performance does not have to mean industrial appearance. Duraguard’s decorative epoxy systems — including metallic epoxy, decorative color chip broadcast, and quartz broadcast systems — combine genuine industrial durability with a high-gloss, visually distinctive finish for automotive showrooms, retail spaces, fitness centers, and commercial lobbies.

Benefits of Industrial Epoxy Floors

Seamless and Non-Porous
Industrial epoxy floors eliminate the joints, cracks, and porous surfaces of bare concrete that harbor bacteria, absorb chemicals, and generate dust. A seamless epoxy surface is dramatically easier to clean and sanitize — a critical advantage in food processing, pharmaceutical, and healthcare environments.

Chemical Resistance
Industrial epoxy floors resist a broad spectrum of chemicals including oils, fuels, hydraulic fluids, acids, alkalis, and industrial cleaning agents. The specific chemical resistance profile depends on the epoxy formulation — Duraguard specifies the right system based on the actual chemicals present in your facility.

Durability and Longevity
A properly installed industrial epoxy floor in a manufacturing or warehouse environment typically delivers 10 to 20 years of service life before requiring maintenance or recoating. This long service life makes industrial epoxy flooring a sound long-term investment compared to the recurring cost of maintaining bare or sealed concrete.

Industrial Flooring

Safety
Industrial epoxy floors can be finished with slip-resistant aggregate profiles that meet OSHA requirements for wet, oily, and high-traffic environments. High-visibility floor markings, safety lines, and zone designations can be incorporated directly into the epoxy system during installation.

Appearance
A high-gloss industrial epoxy floor brightens a facility by reflecting light, making spaces feel larger and better lit without additional lighting. A clean, well-maintained epoxy floor also creates a better impression for customers, auditors, and inspection personnel visiting your facility.

The Industrial Epoxy Installation Process

The performance of an industrial epoxy floor depends as much on installation quality as on product selection. Duraguard follows a disciplined installation process on every project:

Concrete Assessment
Before any material is applied, Duraguard conducts a thorough assessment of the concrete substrate — including moisture vapor emission testing, surface hardness evaluation, and identification of any existing coatings, oils, or contaminants that must be removed before installation can proceed.

Surface Preparation
Proper mechanical preparation of the concrete surface is the foundation of a lasting epoxy installation. Duraguard uses diamond grinding and shot blasting to open the concrete surface to the correct profile — typically ICRI CSP 2-4 — for the specified epoxy system. All contaminants, existing coatings, and surface laitance are fully removed before application begins.

Application
Industrial epoxy systems are applied by trained, experienced installers who understand the specific mixing ratios, application rates, temperatures, and timing requirements that govern successful epoxy installation. Duraguard does not subcontract installation work — our own trained crews perform every installation.

Cure and Return to Service
Standard industrial epoxy systems require 24 to 72 hours of cure time before return to service, depending on temperature and humidity conditions. For facilities requiring faster return to service, Duraguard’s Durathane PA polyaspartic topcoat system allows same-day return to light foot traffic and next-day return to full industrial service.
