Duraclad 903 Urethane Concrete Floor Coating — High Temp & Chemical Resistant

When standard epoxy fails, facilities turn to urethane concrete. Duraclad 903 is Duraguard’s premium urethane concrete floor coating system — a modified polymer concrete formulation engineered specifically for environments where thermal shock, chemical exposure, and high-impact traffic make conventional coatings impractical. Installed by Duraguard Protective Coating Solutions throughout Wisconsin and Illinois since 1993, Duraclad 903 is the system of choice for food processing plants, breweries, pharmaceutical facilities, commercial kitchens, and any industrial environment where the floor faces extreme conditions every day.

What Is Urethane Concrete Flooring?

Urethane concrete — also called polymer concrete or urethane cement — is a hybrid flooring system that combines the durability of concrete with the chemical and thermal resistance of polyurethane resins. Unlike standard epoxy coatings, urethane concrete systems are applied at a thickness of 3/16 to 1/4 inch, creating a monolithic, seamless surface that bonds directly to the substrate and resists the stresses that destroy thinner coating systems over time.

The result is a floor that handles what most coatings cannot — repeated thermal cycling from hot water washdowns to freezing cold storage areas, continuous chemical exposure from acids, caustics, fats, and oils, and the constant mechanical abuse of forklifts, heavy carts, and high-impact dropped loads.

Why Duraclad 903?

Duraclad 903 is not a generic urethane concrete system. It is a specifically formulated modified urethane concrete blend developed for the most demanding industrial and food processing environments. Here is what sets it apart:

Thermal Shock Resistance
Duraclad 903 withstands rapid temperature swings without cracking or delaminating. Hot water and steam washdowns at temperatures up to 212°F followed by cold storage exposure — the kind of daily thermal cycling that destroys standard epoxy within months — are handled without issue. For food and beverage facilities that wash down multiple times daily, this is the defining performance characteristic.

High-Impact and Abrasion Resistance
At 3/16 to 1/4 inch thickness, Duraclad 903 provides a surface that absorbs impact and resists abrasion from forklift traffic, pallet jacks, heavy equipment, and dropped loads. The system does not chip or shatter under point-load impact the way thinner epoxy coatings do.

Superior Chemical Resistance
The system is formulated to resist a broad spectrum of chemicals encountered in food processing and industrial environments including organic acids, lactic acid, citric acid, caustic cleaning agents, fats, oils, sugars, and sanitizers. Duraclad 903 maintains its integrity under continuous chemical exposure that would degrade standard coating systems within months.

Seamless and Non-Porous
Like all Duraguard flooring systems, Duraclad 903 is installed as a seamless, monolithic surface with no joints, grout lines, or seams where bacteria can harbor or moisture can infiltrate. This is critical for facilities subject to USDA, FDA, and HACCP inspection requirements.

Slip Resistance
Duraclad 903 can be finished with varying degrees of texture and slip resistance to meet OSHA requirements for wet, greasy, and high-traffic environments. Custom aggregate profiles are available to match the specific traction needs of your facility.

Where Duraclad 903 Is Used

Duraclad 903 urethane concrete is the right system for any facility where floors face extreme thermal, chemical, or mechanical stress:

Food and Beverage Processing
Meat and poultry processing, dairy and cheese production, beverage and brewing operations, bakeries, frozen food manufacturing, and food ingredient processing all subject floors to the exact combination of thermal shock, chemical exposure, and heavy traffic that Duraclad 903 is engineered for. The system meets USDA and FDA requirements for food contact environments and is ideal for facilities subject to HACCP audits.

Brewery and Distillery Flooring
Brewery environments combine organic acid exposure from wort, beer, and cleaning chemicals with thermal shock from hot CIP (clean-in-place) washdowns and cold fermentation areas. Standard epoxy fails in these conditions within one to two years. Duraclad 903 is specifically proven for brewery and distillery applications.

Commercial Kitchens and Institutional Food Service
Hospital kitchens, university dining facilities, hotel kitchens, and large-scale food service operations benefit from the same thermal shock resistance and chemical durability that makes Duraclad 903 the standard in food processing. The system handles daily steam cleaning, grease exposure, and constant foot traffic.

Pharmaceutical and Laboratory Facilities
Clean room environments and pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities require seamless, chemical-resistant floors that can be sanitized to exacting standards. Duraclad 903 provides a USDA-compliant, non-porous surface that meets pharmaceutical facility requirements.

Industrial Manufacturing
Any manufacturing environment with chemical exposure, wash-down requirements, or extreme temperature cycling benefits from urethane concrete over standard epoxy. Duraclad 903 is installed in assembly plants, chemical processing facilities, and general manufacturing throughout southeastern Wisconsin and northern Illinois.

Duraclad 903 vs. Standard Epoxy — What Is the Difference?

Many facility managers ask why they should specify urethane concrete when epoxy is less expensive. The answer is total cost of ownership.

Standard epoxy systems typically last 3 to 7 years in food processing or high-thermal environments before cracking, delaminating, or failing at drains and transitions. Duraclad 903, properly installed, delivers 10 to 20 years of service life in the same conditions. The higher upfront investment pays back quickly in reduced maintenance, fewer shutdowns for repairs, and elimination of the recurring cost of re-coating a failed epoxy floor.

For facilities subject to health department or USDA inspection, a failed epoxy floor is not just a maintenance problem — it is a compliance risk. Cracked, chipped, or peeling flooring harbors bacteria and can result in failed inspections and costly production shutdowns.

The Duraguard Installation Process

Proper installation is as important as the product itself. Duraclad 903 requires thorough surface preparation — typically diamond grinding or shot blasting to open the concrete substrate and ensure proper mechanical bond. Any existing coatings, oils, or contaminants must be fully removed before application.

Duraguard’s installation crews are experienced in urethane concrete application and understand the specific mixing ratios, application temperatures, and cure times required for Duraclad 903 to perform as designed. We work around your production schedule, including nights and weekends, to minimize downtime during installation.

Service Area

Duraguard installs Duraclad 903 urethane concrete flooring systems throughout southeastern Wisconsin and northern Illinois including Racine, Kenosha, Milwaukee, Waukesha, Waukegan, Gurnee, Libertyville, and surrounding areas.
