Duraguard Protective Coating Solutions
Decorative floor systems are an investment in appearance as much as performance. When a facility specifies a decorative flake, metallic, or quartz broadcast floor, the clear topcoat that goes over it determines how long that floor keeps looking the way it did on day one. Durapoxy HUV is Duraguard’s water-clear, UV-stable, 100% solids epoxy topcoat — engineered specifically for decorative commercial floor systems where clarity, color stability, and long-term appearance are as important as durability. Installed by Duraguard Protective Coating Solutions throughout Wisconsin and Illinois since 1993, Durapoxy HUV is the clear coat that protects decorative floors from the yellowing and ambering that standard epoxy topcoats develop over time.
Standard clear epoxy coatings yellow over time when exposed to UV light, natural daylight, and fluorescent lighting. This is not a defect — it is a chemical characteristic of standard epoxy resin chemistry. On a pigmented or dark floor the color shift may go unnoticed. On a decorative floor with light-colored flake, white or gray base coats, or carefully selected broadcast colors, yellowing destroys the appearance the installation was designed to achieve.
A UV-stable epoxy like Durapoxy HUV is formulated with resin chemistry that resists this photochemical degradation. Applied as the clear topcoat over a decorative broadcast system, Durapoxy HUV maintains its water-clear appearance under ongoing UV and light exposure — preserving the color and visual quality of the decorative system beneath it for the long term.
Water-Clear, Non-Yellowing Formula
Durapoxy HUV cures to a water-clear finish and resists the yellowing and ambering that standard epoxy topcoats develop under UV and light exposure. For decorative floor installations where appearance is a primary requirement, this is the defining performance characteristic. The decorative system installed beneath HUV looks the same years after installation as it did the day it was completed.
UV Stable — Protects Decorative Systems Long Term
The UV stability of Durapoxy HUV directly protects the decorative investment below it. Flake broadcast colors, metallic effects, and quartz aggregate systems all depend on a clear topcoat that does not alter their appearance over time. HUV provides that protection, making it the correct clear coat specification for any decorative commercial floor where long-term color fidelity matters.
100% Solids — Zero Odor
Durapoxy HUV is 100% solids with no solvents and no detectable odor during application or cure. This makes it practical for installation in occupied commercial facilities — retail spaces, showrooms, restaurants, institutional buildings — where solvent odor during or after installation is not acceptable. Floors can be coated during off-hours and returned to service without residual chemical smell.
High Performance Epoxy — Durable Clear Wear Layer
Beyond its optical properties, Durapoxy HUV delivers the chemical resistance, abrasion resistance, and surface hardness expected of a high-performance 100% solids epoxy. As a topcoat over a decorative broadcast system it provides a tough, cleanable surface that protects the decorative layer from the wear and chemical exposure of daily commercial use.
Compatible With Optional Urethane Final Wear Layer
For high-traffic commercial installations requiring maximum abrasion resistance, Durapoxy HUV is compatible with Durathane HW/HS urethane topcoat as an optional final wear layer applied over the cured HUV coat. The urethane topcoat is not required — Durapoxy HUV performs as a complete topcoat on its own — but adding Durathane HW/HS significantly increases abrasion resistance and extends the service life of the floor in demanding traffic conditions. For showrooms, retail floors, and commercial spaces with moderate traffic, HUV alone is typically sufficient. For high-traffic corridors, lobbies, and commercial floors with heavy foot or wheeled traffic, the urethane final coat is the right upgrade.
8 to 12 Hour Cure
Durapoxy HUV cures in 8 to 12 hours under normal conditions, keeping multi-coat decorative system installation schedules on track.
Durapoxy HUV performs as part of a layered decorative floor system. A typical Duraguard decorative installation is built as follows:
Layer 1 — Primer
Durapoxy TCX or Durapoxy 520 (moisture-tolerant) penetrating primer and seal coat prepares the concrete substrate, prevents outgassing, and creates the adhesion foundation for the system.
Layer 2 — Base Coat
Durapoxy TC pigmented 100% solids epoxy base coat is applied in the selected color and allowed to cure.
Layer 3 — Decorative Broadcast
Decorative flake, quartz aggregate, or other broadcast material is applied into the wet base coat at the desired coverage rate and allowed to cure.
Layer 4 — Durapoxy HUV Clear Topcoat
Durapoxy HUV is applied over the cured broadcast system as the clear UV-stable topcoat, locking in the decorative layer and providing the finished wear surface.
Layer 5 — Durathane HW/HS Urethane (Optional)
For high-traffic installations, Durathane HW/HS urethane topcoat can be applied over cured Durapoxy HUV to significantly increase abrasion resistance. This optional layer is recommended for any commercial floor subject to heavy foot traffic, wheeled carts, or other abrasive wear conditions.
Commercial Showrooms and Retail Spaces
Showrooms, retail floors, and commercial spaces where decorative appearance is a primary requirement benefit from Durapoxy HUV’s water-clear, non-yellowing formula. The floor installed looks the same under fluorescent and natural lighting years after installation as it did on opening day.
Restaurants and Hospitality Facilities
Restaurant dining rooms, hotel lobbies, hospitality facilities, and entertainment venues specify decorative floor systems for their visual impact. Durapoxy HUV protects that investment by maintaining the clarity and color fidelity of the decorative system beneath it over years of service.
Institutional and Educational Facilities
Schools, universities, healthcare facilities, and institutional buildings benefit from decorative floor systems that are easy to clean, durable, and visually maintained over time. Durapoxy HUV delivers the clear topcoat performance these environments require with zero odor during installation.
Office and Commercial Buildings
Office lobbies, corridors, and common areas with decorative floor systems benefit from HUV’s UV stability and zero-odor installation — practical for occupied buildings where installation must happen during off-hours without disrupting tenants.
Any Decorative Broadcast System Requiring a Clear Topcoat
Whenever a decorative flake, quartz, or metallic floor system is specified, Durapoxy HUV is the clear topcoat that protects the decorative layer and maintains its appearance over the long term. Specifying a standard epoxy clear over a decorative broadcast system is the most reliable way to end up with a yellowed floor within two to three years.
Decorative floor systems require precise execution at every layer. Duraguard’s installation crews are experienced in multi-coat decorative system installation — from surface preparation and primer application through base coat, broadcast, and clear topcoat — and understand the application windows, cure times, and sequencing required for each layer to perform as designed.
We work around your production schedule, including nights and weekends, to minimize disruption to your facility during installation.
Duraguard installs Durapoxy HUV clear topcoat and complete decorative floor systems throughout southeastern Wisconsin and northern Illinois including Racine, Kenosha, Milwaukee, Waukesha, Waukegan, Gurnee, Libertyville, and surrounding areas.
